Principal R&D Engineer (Technical Lead) - Surgical

Medtronic seeks a Principal R&D Engineer to lead technical integration for a complex surgical device industrialization program in Galway, Ireland. The role spans product design, manufacturing, and operations, requiring oversight of multidisciplinary teams and accountability for production-ready solutions across development through manufacturing release.

Responsibilities

• Oversee integrated technical solution alignment with product, system, quality, manufacturing and business requirements
• Serve as central technical integration point across design, process, equipment, test, quality, suppliers and operations
• Maintain oversight of technical scope, requirements, interfaces, dependencies, risks, decisions and program readiness
• Lead multidisciplinary technical reviews on performance, manufacturability, testability, reliability and system-level impacts
• Drive complex technical risks and issues to closure through structured analysis, testing and expert engagement

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Systems engineering or related discipline with 7+ years experience
• Master's or advanced degree in engineering discipline with 5+ years relevant experience (alternative pathway)
• Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary engineering across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing domains
• Proven accountability for integrated technical solutions or major cross-functional engineering workstreams
• Strong systems-thinking across requirements, architecture, interfaces, dependencies, risks and technical maturity
• Experience with product development, Design Transfer, industrialization and manufacturing readiness processes
• Excellent engineering judgment, communication and facilitation skills in matrix organizations
