Your New Role

The Asset Operations function is central to service delivery, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and management of operational expenditure. It oversees operational and maintenance strategies, policies, planning, and standard operating procedures for water and wastewater services at the national and regional level.

The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team delivers water and wastewater operational services through the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of treatment and network assets. The regional O&M teams manage local operations, maintenance, repairs, and health and safety requirements.

The Water/Wastewater Treatment Maintenance Senior Operative (Electrical) is responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across a defined geographical area. Out‑of‑hours work may be required, with applicable overtime and standby rates.

Positions are currently available in Dublin. A panel will be created for future roles arising within 12 months.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support electrical maintenance for water and wastewater treatment services.
  • Carry out electrical tasks including cleaning, servicing, inspection, testing, part replacement, and routine maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance on pumps, engines, valves, gearboxes, electrical interfaces, hydraulics, pneumatics, fittings, and mechanical devices.
  • Disconnect and reconnect electrical power when qualified to do so.
  • Conduct electrical diagnostics including fault-finding, overload setting, maintenance of motors, starters, generators, lighting, VSDs, instrumentation, calibration, and automation resets.
  • Ensure safety through risk assessments, correct equipment use, and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Support electrical maintenance on network assets such as pumping stations and secondary treatment plants.
  • Complete administrative tasks including work orders, safety records, maintenance management, and inventory updates using provided systems.
  • Accurately record data on asset conditions and replacements using handheld devices.
  • Work on Medium and High Voltage systems where required.
  • Provide oversight on work carried out by third‑party contractors.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow Construction Regulations and duties assigned under relevant legislation.
  • Identify hazards and complete site risk assessments.
  • Apply safe work procedures and standard operating practices.
  • Complete mandatory safety training, including Safe Pass and relevant certified skills.
  • Use the correct tools, PPE, and safety equipment.
  • Maintain site welfare facilities.
  • Manage site access for staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Record accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Complete corrective actions and support updates to safety plans and files.
  • Maintain the local Safety File and submit updates as required.
  • Perform any additional duties requested by the line manager.

What You Need to Succeed

  • QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate (or equivalent) in Electrical Craft.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience.
  • Experience coaching or developing team members.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Good understanding of pumps, motors, munchers, dosing pumps, blowers, compressors, sludge presses, aerators, welding, and waterworks fittings.
  • Knowledge of potable water network fittings (advantage).
  • Experience with automated control systems (advantage).
  • Full, clean Irish Category B driving licence.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and initiative.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Strong literacy skills.
  • Experience in the water industry or utilities (preferred).
  • Ability to work in environments with noise, vermin, and confined spaces (with full training and risk assessment).
