Your impact

You’ll take a leading role in shaping the future of rail signalling in Ireland, bringing technical authority, sound judgement, and a passion for delivering safe, reliable systems. As Signalling Lead, you’ll provide strategic direction across LRT and Metro programmes, guiding the development, renewal, and enhancement of signalling and AVLS assets to meet long‑term operational and performance objectives. 

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Signalling Systems, this is a high‑profile leadership role at the heart of Jacobs’ rail ambitions in Ireland. You’ll drive the delivery of signalling systems across LRT and Metro programmes, from developing robust works requirements and tender documentation through to design assurance and construction compliance. Alongside major Irish projects, you’ll support global Jacobs opportunities, sharing expertise and contributing to international best practice in rail signalling. You’ll be at the forefront of complex, safety‑critical delivery—leading design activities, overseeing installation, testing, and commissioning, and ensuring every output meets the highest technical, environmental, and safety standards.

The role offers hybrid working, based from our Dublin, Cork, or Belfast offices, with travel aligned to business needs—providing the opportunity to influence major programmes, work with industry‑leading experts, and deliver rail infrastructure that is affordable, sustainable, and future‑ready.

Key deliverables: (not limited to)

  • Lead Signalling Systems Engineering across LRT and Metro programmes, ensuring the effective delivery of complex, safety critical systems. 
  • Develop comprehensive works requirements for the renewal and enhancement of Signalling and AVLS assets, aligned with long term operational and performance objectives. 
  • Prepare high quality tender documentation, conduct thorough technical design reviews, and oversee the planning, installation, testing, and commissioning phases of major asset renewal projects. 
  • Ensure competency and capability across internal teams and contractor personnel, maintaining robust technical and safety standards throughout all design and construction activities. 
  • Manage all Signalling design activities to deliver affordable, programme compliant, and environmentally responsible solutions that meet stringent time, cost, quality, and safety criteria.

  • A recognised industry specialist in Light Rail and Metro systems, bringing deep expertise and credibility to complex transport programmes.
  • Proven experience in leading signaling engineering initiatives across complex programmes.
