We are hiring a Medical Scientist – Blood Transfusion into our Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.

 

This is a permanent, full-time position

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and enforcing laboratory procedures to ensure efficient operation of testing processes and equipment.

  • Support the implementation of operational procedures aligned with best practice standards to optimise laboratory resources.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a patient-centred quality management programme, including performance measurement and service audits.

  • Perform scientific laboratory work in accordance with INAB and JCI accreditation standards under the guidance of the Chief Medical Scientist and Laboratory Manager.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards, including INAB accreditation requirements and EU Directives on Blood and Blood Products where applicable.

  • Effectively prioritise and organise workload, particularly during busy periods, and manage multiple testing processes simultaneously.

  • Participate in departmental on-call rotas and collaborate with staff in implementing new technologies and laboratory practices in line with hospital policies.

  • Assist in laboratory stock management, record incidents or equipment issues, and report findings to laboratory management when necessary.

  • Support training and professional development within the laboratory team while maintaining clear, professional communication with colleagues and hospital clients.

  • Follow health and safety regulations, contribute to quality assurance programmes, support laboratory information systems, and participate in performance reviews while remaining flexible to meet service needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.

  • CORU registration (or eligibility for registration) is required.

  • Minimum 1 year of in-service training across all laboratory disciplines.

  • Experience in Blood Transfusion is essential.

  • Post-qualification laboratory experience is desirable.

  • Previous participation in on-call rotas is desirable.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory management and hospital departments to ensure efficient laboratory services.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional and dedicated approach to work.

  • Good understanding of modern laboratory services, accreditation standards, quality control, and relevant healthcare legislation.

  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), health and safety regulations, and IT systems used in laboratory operations is desirable.
