Resident Engineer – Bridge Construction

Job Type: Full-time, Fixed-term (12 months)

About the Role

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to join a site supervision team on a major bridge construction, rehabilitation and maintenance project in the Galway/Mayo region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated civil or structural engineer with strong bridge experience to take responsibility for site-based supervision, inspection and contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor bridge construction and rehabilitation works on site.
  • Inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with designs, specifications and contract requirements.
  • Monitor contractor progress, quality and programme.
  • Maintain accurate site records, reports and project documentation.
  • Administer construction activities and support contract management.
  • Record and report on contractor performance and project progress.
  • Liaise with contractors, designers, clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Ensure construction works comply with relevant Health & Safety requirements.
  • Support the wider site supervision team in achieving project objectives.
  • Identify construction issues and support appropriate solutions.
  • Attend site meetings and provide technical input where required.

About You

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering .
  • Relevant postgraduate experience as a Resident Engineer or similar site-based role.
  • Strong experience in the construction, repair or rehabilitation of masonry, concrete and steel bridge structures .
  • Experience with site inspection, supervision and contractor reporting.
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations and construction best practice.
  • Experience administering Public Works contracts would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office .
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Full driving licence and valid Safe Pass .
