Head of ICT Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure — Azure, VMware & VDI
Parker Stewart Ltd
The role
You own the NTMA's hybrid infrastructure and end-user computing estate, and you lead the three teams that run it — Cloud, Infrastructure and End User Compute. Azure, Microsoft 365, the on-premises VMware estate, the NTMA-managed data centres and the Omnissa Horizon virtual desktop service all sit with you. When any of it is slow, down or out of date, you are the person the organisation looks to.What you'll actually be doing
- Lead three specialist teams — Cloud, Infrastructure and End User Computing — and set shared engineering standards across all three.
- Own the Azure and Microsoft 365 estate: tenant configuration, identity integration, monitoring, backup, capacity and cloud cost management.
- Run the on-premises VMware estate and the NTMA-managed data centres — compute, storage, backup and recovery, patching and hardware lifecycle.
- Own the Omnissa Horizon virtual desktop service end to end: platform availability, image and application lifecycle, performance and user experience.
- Prove disaster recovery, restore and service continuity actually work, rather than assuming they do.
- Drive platform currency, reduce technical debt and close out vulnerability remediation across the on-premises estate.
- Manage Microsoft, VMware, Omnissa and managed service partners to clear outcomes, service levels and commercial oversight.
- Translate technical risk into business impact, options and roadmaps for ICT leadership and business stakeholders.
What we need
- Senior leadership experience across hybrid infrastructure — cloud and on-premises, not one or the other.
- Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 at enterprise scale, including governance, identity and cost management.
- VMware virtualisation and data centre operations.
- VDI service ownership — Omnissa Horizon, VMware Horizon or equivalent.
- Proven line management of specialist technical teams, including succession and skills development.
- Supplier and service provider management, with service levels and performance review.
- Third-level qualification in IT, computer science, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
Nice to have
- Regulated financial services, public sector or a similarly controlled environment.
- Delivery of infrastructure transformation, cloud migration, data centre modernisation or VDI change programmes.
- Identity and access management, endpoint management and security control integration across hybrid estates.
- IT service management, enterprise architecture or cloud financial management practice.
- Certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, VMware, Omnissa, ITSM, architecture or cloud governance.
The reality of the role
This is three platforms held together by one person's judgement — a cloud estate that keeps growing, an on-premises environment still running critical services, and a virtual desktop service every single user touches every morning. You will have real authority across all three and matching accountability for all three. The compensation is that the modernisation roadmap is genuinely yours to write.Working at the NTMA
