Senior Payroll Specialist – Dungarvan – Hybrid

Hartley People Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join a busy payroll function.

This is a senior operational role within a small payroll team, supporting the Payroll Manager with the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of fortnightly and monthly payrolls across multiple legal entities.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for day-to-day payroll processing, reconciliations, statutory obligations, benefits administration, month-end reporting and payroll controls, while also contributing to process improvement and automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and oversee fortnightly and monthly payrolls across multiple legal entities.
  • Coordinate payroll cycles, monitor deadlines and ensure all required inputs, checks, approvals and outputs are completed accurately and on time.
  • Review and validate payroll data, calculations and reports prior to payroll finalisation and payment.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate Revenue reporting and compliance with Irish payroll legislation and internal controls.
  • Prepare and reconcile pension contributions, medical insurance, benefit deductions, BIK and other third-party payroll deductions.
  • Prepare payroll journals, accruals, control account reconciliations and supporting month-end reports.
  • Act as a key point of contact for payroll, pension, medical insurance and benefit-related queries.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on routine and complex payroll matters.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, process documentation and audit-ready information.
  • Support internal and external audits and respond to payroll information requests.
  • Identify payroll risks, control gaps and recurring issues and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Support the review and improvement of payroll processes and controls.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual activities, reduce paperwork and improve data quality.
  • Support payroll system upgrades, migrations, testing and implementation projects.
  • Contribute to the efficient integration of Time & Attendance, HR and payroll systems.
  • Develop and improve payroll reports, checklists, templates and management information.
  • Promote consistent payroll processes and best practice across multiple legal entities.

Requirements

  • IPASS payroll qualification is essential.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant payroll experience .
  • Strong practical knowledge of Irish payroll processing and Revenue requirements.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations and statutory deductions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines in a multi-company environment.
  • Experience reviewing and checking payroll work, resolving discrepancies and maintaining effective payroll controls.
  • Good understanding of payroll journals, accruals, accounts and month-end reporting.
  • Strong Excel and general IT skills.
  • A keen interest in payroll systems, Time & Attendance integration and automation.
  • Ability to identify inefficient processes and implement practical improvements.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong confidentiality, accountability and ownership.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and contribute effectively within a small team.
