Detailed Responsibilities: Defining the Vision

As the Lead Character Artist , you are the bridge between the high-level creative direction and the technical execution of the character team. Your mission is divided into three core pillars: Leadership, Creative Direction, and Technical Excellence.

1. Creative Stewardship & Character Vision

  • Style Definition: Establish and refine the creative vision for all character-related assets, ensuring they feel grounded, authentic, and high-fidelity.

  • Concept Realization: Lead the journey from 2D character concepts to final 3D meshes, ensuring every tactical vest, facial expression, and fabric fold aligns with the project’s grit.

  • Cross-Title Consistency: Maintain a cohesive character direction across Ready or Not updates and upcoming unannounced pre-production projects.

2. Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Direct Management: Oversee the internal Character Art Team, providing constant guidance, constructive critiques, and inspiration.

  • Fostering Growth: Provide direct mentorship to junior and mid-level artists, helping them master the VOID pipeline and advance their professional skills.

  • Culture Building: Foster a collaborative, “kick-ass” environment where creative problem-solving is encouraged and quality is non-negotiable.

3. Technical Integration & Pipeline Optimization

  • Unreal Engine 5 Mastery: Lead the implementation of characters into UE5, utilizing the latest in MetaHuman tech and advanced material shaders.

  • Workflow Engineering: Partner with production to build and refine efficient character pipelines that eliminate friction and maximize output quality.

  • Performance Optimization: Address technical bottlenecks, ensuring high-poly hero models are perfectly optimized for multi-platform performance without losing visual impact.

  • Vendor Management: Provide expert feedback to outsourced vendors and test delivered updates directly within Unreal Engine 5 to ensure they meet our internal “Gold” standard.

Professional Qualifications: What You Bring to VOID

VOID Interactive is looking for a veteran who has survived the trenches of AAA development and emerged with a portfolio of iconic characters.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Shipped AAA Success: You must have a proven track record as a Character Lead or Director on at least one shipped AAA title.

  • Technical Expert: Highly experienced in Unreal Engine 5 and deeply familiar with modern character pipelines, including MetaHuman creation and high-to-low poly baking.

  • Anatomical Mastery: A profound understanding of human anatomy, appeal, and the subtle “language” of clothing and gear.

  • Senior Leadership: At least 5 years of professional experience specifically in character art creation for high-end games.

The VOID DNA (Soft Skills):

  • Collaborative Nature: The ability to partner effectively with Senior Art Directors, Animators, and Engineers.

  • Adaptability: A deep understanding of multiple art styles and the ability to pivot between them as new projects emerge.

  • Communicative Clarity: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for a remote-first leadership role.

Why Join VOID Interactive?

VOID is not a “corporate” studio. We are a team of gamers who want to build the games we actually want to play.

  1. Work on a Best-Seller: Ready or Not has set the standard for tactical shooters. You will be helping to maintain and grow a global phenomenon.

  2. True Remote Freedom: We are a remote-first company. We don’t care where you are located; we care about the quality of your work and your passion for the craft.

  3. Cutting-Edge Tech: We are pushing the limits of Unreal Engine 5 . You will have the tools and the freedom to experiment with the latest industry tech.

  4. Influence & Impact: As a Lead, you are not a cog in a machine. Your decisions will directly shape the visual identity of our future titles.
