Blackrock Health Galway Clinic is a leading private hospital delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across cardiology, surgery, and advanced medical services and we are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Perfusion Scientist to join our dynamic team. This permanent, parttime role, 20 hours per week.

About the Role

Blackrock Health Galway Clinic is seeking a skilled and motivated Clinical Perfusion Scientist to join our cardiothoracic team. This role involves delivering a safe, high-quality clinical perfusion service to support a wide range of cardiac and related surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently operate cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and associated extracorporeal circulation technologies during routine and emergency cardiac surgeries.
  • Monitor patient physiology and respond proactively to maintain stability during procedures.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot perfusion equipment, including Heart-lung machines, Heater-cooler Units, IABP, and Cell Saver.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety standards, and best practice guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide on-call support for emergency procedures and demonstrate flexibility in working hours.
  • Participation in an on-call rota is required

Essential Requirements:

  • Accreditation and Registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain & Ireland.
  • Membership of the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain & Ireland.
  • Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience in a cardiac surgical environment .
  • Proven ability to independently manage CPB and related technologies.
  • Strong clinical judgement, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
