Position : Head of Health, Safety and Environment

Type of contract : Permanent; Full-Time

Location : Killarney, Co. Kerry

The Head of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) will be responsible for leading & managing all activity in relation to the organization’s Group Health, Safety & Environment Programme. This role involves working across group sites to develop, implement, and oversee strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe working environment for employees.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HSE Manager to join our team in Killarney. The successful candidate will be reporting to the CEO. We are seeking someone who can utilise their skills & existing knowledge base to support us in achieving our initiatives, in driving the performance of HSE against KPIs & broaden & advance our existing H&S programmes towards a best-in-class standard.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement an HSE strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
Establish & implement effective Health, Safety & Environment policies & procedures incorporating legislative requirements & industry best practice.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives including setting targeted/site-specific goals and initiatives and monitor performance/progress.
Oversee external audits & inspections & develop the Tricel internal HSE audit programme to monitor compliance to documented policies & procedures.
Oversee Emergency Management Planning to ensure that this addresses continuation of business and the minimisation of legal and regulatory breaches.
Compile & report on key Health & Safety & Environment metrics and analyse data to identify trends, root cause and opportunities for improvement.
Provide guidance, advice, and support to the management team on HSE policy and strategy standards.
Ensure statutory reporting is undertaken in accordance with local legislation and internal procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as operations, maintenance, and HR to identify risks, mitigate hazards and integrate HSE considerations into business processes and decision-making.
Identify HSE training needs in conjunction with group sites.
Manage a team of regional and central HSE resources.
Participate in ongoing HSE projects as required.

Candidate Profile

A minimum of 5 years’ experience at H&S Manager level within a manufacturing environment.
Experience and proven capabilities in developing and implementing world class health and safety management systems to ISO45001 standards in a manufacturing environment.
Detailed knowledge of legislation and ability to interpret and translate such information into business policy and procedures.
Experience of Chemical Management & ATEX requirements a strong advantage
Primary Degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent in conjunction with a recognized Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
Chartered member of IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) or equivalent qualification would be an advantage.
Self-confidence, maturity, discipline, and a commercial approach to establish credibility at all levels in the business.
Proven ability to think strategically and maintain strategic focus while operating across many functional areas in a constantly changing environment.
Proven ability to act as an advocate for the development and implementation of change.
Proven ability to successfully implement and execute programmes and drive high performance.
Demonstrated ability to successfully influence key internal and external stakeholders and identify external issues which will impact business performance.
A persuasive influencer and negotiator with strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to manage teams and demonstrate leadership ability including proactive development & motivation.
Travel to group site required as part of the role.
